While the first Gremlins movie is a joy and a treasure and also makes for many a comfy repeated Christmas viewing, Gremlins 2: The New Batch slipped away from memory for decades for me. Upon rewatching a few years ago, a new love was set ablaze. The Brain Gremlin, or Brain, was voiced by Tony Randall and reminds us that while violence is fun, it is in no sense civilized. Drawn lightly in graphite and then darkened and detailed in charcoal, this brainy friend was sketched during one of my blue periods so there is a roughness and urgency to this piece.
